A large, stone built, detached, traditional Cornish cottage with five double bedrooms. It is situated on a corner in this small rural village of Halsetown, deep in the heart of beautiful Cornwall, less than 2 miles from the popular resort of St. Ives.
The house was built in 1830 and was the childhood home of the actor Sir
Henry Irving. Owned by us since 1997, having stood empty for the previous
five years, we have set about decorating and improving the house to a good
standard whilst trying to retain as much of its original character as we
could, including using one of the old shop counters in the kitchen! All decorating has been done with a view to maintaining a style of accommodation in keeping with the age of the property, there is some fitted carpet on the ground floor, together with painted stone floors, beamed ceilings and some leaded glasswork. The original Aga is now, unfortunately, for decoration only. There is night storage heating together with electric radiators and heaters.
The property was originally the village shop, and even the bell that alerted the shopkeeper to customers has been retained! However, this large room has now been made into a play & games room, with a quarter size snooker table, dart board, television, toys, books and games, a large table and seating for ten. This together with the large and fully enclosed garden makes this an ideal family holiday home. |
